The second community outreach event that the ReTOOL students participated in was the 20th annual Black Men’s Health Summit at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The Black Men’s Health Summit’s mission is to improve the health and wellness of African Americans and minorities through a variety of health educational programs, demonstrations, and consultations with local physicians. The Black Men’s Health Summit also addressed and provided ample information of the diseases that are plaguing the African American community such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and hypertension. These summits only allow males to participate, are available to the public, and free of cost.  In addition the Black men’s Health Summit offers breakfast, health screenings, information workshops and wellness exhibits.

The ReTOOL students had the privilege of collecting data, providing help to the attendees, passing out surveys, answering questions, and being a fresh face to the nervous attendees who have never had the opportunity to receive health care before arriving to the summit.
